whether or not he has a big mouth, he has been vindicated in terms of his view that doping in cycling was at a crisis level, when most still had their heads in the sand. he purposely had a big mouth. not really a news flash and definitely not worthy of a thread.

I guess in a sense Verbruggen is vindicated too by Pounds comments.

Sure miss the most quotable Mr. Pound.
He like a lot of people led the cycling to the top of the sports to be ridiculed ignoring other sports or giving them the attention or curses they were do. Not that I mind about he said cycling had/has (still) a problem... but its a universal to sports. And one might say in governments and cultures. Its no surprise that the poorest of countries have the most corrupt governments.

cycling earned its place on "top", and pound rightfully put it there. the list of top cyclists/race winners who were later found positive is absolutely staggering.

Perhaps not so absolutely staggering to some of us when they remove their personal heroes -- you know those cyclists who were wrongfully accused and/or suspended blink.gif -- oops, and/or have been confirmed to have tested positive and/or to have had EPO in their system and/or are on the OP list, etc., etc., -- from this list.

How is this anything but a victory for anyone but Pound? The UCI realized they had a no win case and finally dropped it. All Pound did was reiterate that the UCI are clueless

And the UCI has acknowledged, in this release, that WADA is duty bound to observe if they are clueless
it remains the duty of the bodies responsible for combating doping, including WADA, to note any inadequacy on the part of any agency whatsoever with a view to making this fight more effective
But, perhaps it was also a temporary victory for HWMNBN and even for FFFollowers.

Emphasis on temporary.

This came about when Pound was pounding on the Vrijman report and the FFFollies. It did apparently succeed in making Pound go quiet over this critical period.

As we have seen, though, we now have the Floyd Rule which allows the ADA's to combat PR tactics and disinformation campaigns. We can now add the UCI's public endorsement of WADA's ability, or that of any ADA (e.g. including the AFLD), to 'note any inadequacy ... whatsoever'.

That is a pretty broad mandate. One that should be making Verdruggen deputy McQuaid nervous.

Let's see what kind of 'notes' Bordry provides on any and all 'inadequacies' from what can only be predicted as next year's feeble UCI controls at the Tour as the UCI continues with its stated objective of seeking to eliminate any positive controls whatsoever.

It's all very clear, if one can be bothered reading the text. Pound acknowledges that his mouth cannot be trusted and that he routinely says things which are not true ... He admits as much. Not my fault the guy's a prick.

I can at least gain some satisfaction that my opinion of him has finally been verified and validated ... by the man hisself. Pound sucks ... although we all knew that anyway.

And the empire he ruled ... WADA ?... A perfect reflection of it's creator.

In the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is king. I won't trouble you with the extension of that logic ... suffice to say that I rule.

Where does he say this?

Like what often happens with the UCI, they make lot of threats then back away when it is clear they have no case......Kind of like Armstrong.

great post! There's a whole lotta people telling cycling how to fix its problem (symptom), but a glaring lack of anybody offering theories about what caused the problem(what's the disease that causes this symptom?)

i think pound was in a difficult position because he was charged with ridding the WORLD of doping, and in cycling, he saw the symptoms more than in other sports (the poor government, and the totally decentralized government, can't afford, or doesn't have the organization/leadership required to address (cover up?) corruption)...i think he saw his responsibility as a sort of triage...and some of his words were accordingly drastic...Problem is, he convinced many (intentionally?) that cycling was the sole carrier of this disease...that cycling alone has this problem.

the other problem is that triage doesn't offer any real diagnosis...at some point, after the bleeding is stopped (or slowed), you've got to figure out what the real problem is and address it...otherwise, you'll amputate your patient to death.

OK, you got me. He doesn't explicitly say "I'm a lying bar steward". I did make the assumption that not all members on this forum were OCD. My fault again ?

It's commonly referred to as understanding basic English. I know you have a natural excuse, because you're American, but ...

Pound is my glove puppet. He's such a dick it was simple to infiltrate his feeble mind and tell him what to do. Sorry Floyd !!! It all seemed such a big joke to start with ... I didn't realise Pound had psychotic tendencies. Once unleashed, I couldn't call him back in. He really was like a dog with a bone. Hence my desperate attempts to become a scientist so that I could highlight the lies levelled against you.

Anyway, I will now direct Pound to self destruct. Better safe than sorry. Watch the news feeds ...

So you are saying you made it up. Would not be the first time you have done that here.

The fact is the UCI once again overstepped and did the best they could to back out of another mess. It was nice of Mr. Pound to let them off with just a warning and "Sorry you are so stupid you missunderstood"

Pound made several disparaging and widely reported comments about NHL hockey's drug policy, and about FIFA's footdragging in signing the code. I think we're just sensitive to his comments about cycling because it's our sport.

You have to see the problem before you can fix it. Pound shone the light, now the French police are fixing it. Or at least today's news looks like that.

in 2004, lance complained to authorities of a performance enhancer that certain spanish riders were using. to feel the same way about lance, shooting his mouth off, as you say?

I don't want to direct this at any person, in particular, but ...

Anybody who respects the moron that is Dick Pound is, by definition, a stupid, unthinking moron themselves. Sorry, I guess there's no nice way of saying that.

And if you can't even see how stupid Dick Moron is ... well, society demands that you are ridiculed. Darwinian theory predicts that must happen.

Merry Christmas, BTW ...
Cowboy
The UCI and Dick Pound have got impeccable timing. How fortuitous that the UCI French Judiciary are finding the evidence left behind by cycling's drug taking cheats. I bet that Dick Pound is feeling really stupid now!!!!!

That you have to resort to personal attacks only reinforces the weakness of your argument.

What has Pound said that was wrong? Please give specific quotes.

OK, I never meant to hurt anyone's feelings ... and I never realised that you were partial to Dick ?

Pound, on the other hand, is a fool ... we all know that so let's stop playing games.

... Pound acknowledged that "some of his comments reported in the media might have seemed excessive if they were interpreted to mean that the UCI and Hein Verbruggen were doing nothing to combat doping."

Nope, He is saying that the idiots at the UCI misunderstood his comments because they are um, idiots. He does not say his commments were wrong, he just says they were interpreted incorrectly.

I have yet to see any of his comments that were incorrect.
