But wait...

I remember Jan saying, "I don't know Dr. Fuentes, have never known him, and never will," when the rumors broke during the 2006 Giro. Still, no surprise. Nobody's clean, IMHO. Just curious why he went to Dr. Fuentes instead of using T-Mobile's in house program.

I am glad for Jan because it looks as if he's made a successful transition to post-racing life. Nice to see a happy, well adjusted ex-cyclist for a change. Believe he's glad to be off the dope.

"Investigators searching Ullrich's bank account discovered two transactions to Fuentes that were worth 80,000 euros, according to Der Spiegel. "

Hmmm. So Tyler wasn't the only one sending money?

Dave.

I find it funny that the title says that Jan is haunting by allegations. A guy who says "if you can't put 1 and 1 together, I can't help you" is hardly haunted. If anything, I bet he is glad to be done the the mess.

It does appear Tyler wasn’t the only person sending money. BUT Tyler was the only one stupid enough and also to have a spouse stupid enough to send money with a nice neat paper trail of invoices!

ring ring.......

hello????

Yeah sure thing doc just fax over your invoice and I will have my Dog Tug boat fax my reply for additional "services".

You already provided the perfect response with your signature, and I had to laugh as I read all the way to the bottom.

Perhaps the case is analogous to Richard Virenque, Ferrari, and the Festina program. According to Voet, Virenque went to see Ferrari, but couldn't afford the fees and didn't want everyone to know that he was on the top-tier program. He had to settle for in-house doping where, for example, their HCTs were restricted to just 55. Team members made some joke about their program being Bruno's Uno to Ferrari's Ferrari, or something like that (someone else can fill in the exact car analogy).

Fuentes' program probably guaranteed access to a series of safe houses, or regular flights to Spain, or a more convenient network, as opposed to late-night trips to Freiburg University.

It would seem that Fuentes could also provide weight loss services, with 80,000 euros probably a record for a dieting plan.

I know anything I say here is redundant, but ... nobody here seems to be interested in trivial, but significant, matters like evidence ? There appears to be nothing but hearsay (AKA DPF pure gold).

Nothing concrete, just rumor mongoring. Where I come from, only old gossipy women take part in this sort of unhealthy obsession with other people's lives.

Ali, I know your retirement from the DPF was even shorter than LA's from the peloton, but you need to get some miles in by at least reading the article:

"The fresh allegations are based on data from a 2,000 page file by public prosecutors which was compiled in the years 2006 to 2008."

For example, Fuentes would (still does?) rent appartments in rest day towns. He was (is?) a full service kind of guy. Even did transmission of accounting documents by fax (probabaly doesn't do that any more, may Tugboat RIP).

Ali, you've just outed yourself as an American "journalist" covering cycling. Question is, who are you? Certainly, you're not the likes of Ed Pickering (Cycle Sport), Paul Kimmage, Tom Goldman, or Alan Abrahamson (the latter two who don't even follow the sport). Let me guess: you're of the ilk that if a guy goes into a brothel, you couldn't assume it was for a particular sexual service i.e. he could be going to merely talk to the dame for a counseling session? Am I correct? So just throw Kiwi's quote out the window because the needle wasn't caught in Jan's skin?

As for Ullrich, since Deutschland has laws against doping, what exactly are they and what about statute of limitations? Could that be a factor in Jan not coming clean now?

It seems that his reasons for his rather pathetic denials are simply financial by now. If he comes clean, the lawsuits pile in, and make his own lawsuits (against defunct Team Coast and Werner Franke) plain ludicrous.

I was for a similar reason that Virenque denied for a full year his doping, by contract he should have lost most his wages.

Believe he made some statement last year about how during the worst of it, the press disrupted his extended family too. Not something he'd willingly go through again.

Just for the record ... and to put your humanitarian concerns to rest ... Jan won't suffer any legal consequences for these latest media stories. Fortunately for professional cyclists, sanctions have to go through a formal procedure and are not purely subject to lynch mob decisions (e.g DPF).

Thanks for the reality check patrick.

It took a while, but Ali finally validates the procedure for sanctioning doping offences.
