Pas de Dopage
I was watching Intervention last night and the subject of the episode was "Chad". He was a professional cyclist and was even riding for USPS for a couple of years. He ended up making fun of Armstrong by calling him a doughboy and poking his stomach at the Boulder Olympic training camp. The next day he was asked to leave, and a couple years later his contract was terminated. (Around 1998...?)

Anyone know more about this guy? Sounds like he was a great cyclist for a while. I'd be interested in knowing if there's more of a story as turning to crack cocaine and alcohol hasn't been the first thing on my mind after losing a job.

At the end of the show he was sober, had bought a new bicycle and was enrolled in college. Good for him. I'm just curious if anyone knows anything else about him?

1990?
91?

Not 99, when Ms. Armstrong was way beyond Motorola and OTC.
Duh.

Sad, eh?

Obvious to you, me and everyone else but one...

Remember, he is a fan. You have to cut him some slack.

It seems that A&E is continuing their coverage of Chad Gerlach's "rebirth" from drugs and doping. Chad is now signed with Fanini's Amore e Vita team and A&E have been so impressed with Fanini's public stance against doping ( and giving riders a second chance at redemption) that they have decided to feature another few episodes of Chad's upcoming return to racing in Italy. Fanini mused back in 2006 that he wished to see a reality show based on cycling just like the one done about a soccer player but the feasibility and cost were such that he didn't think that Italian tv would bite. So he's pleased that A&E are coming to Italy to cover an Amore e Vita training camp and Chad's participation in the 2009 G.P. Cosa degli Etruschi and the Giro di Grosseto.

Here's hoping that Chad battles his demons and turns over a new leaf. (And not the ganja one)

Hello I am vanishingPoint and I approve of this thread...but...shouldn't it be put in the "Doping out of Cycling" category?

or just a big dope out of cycling...
but actually sounds a bit more complicated than that.
sad story.
given the guy had already committed felony arson at age 15...
but all the best to him now in his recovery.
