our esteemed VBD is far better qualified to deduce this than moi.

I took out all non-lowland riders. Took out the youngsters. Took out Boonen's right hand guys Cretskens and Hulsmans.

I think I should have added in Addy Engels hey VDB.

I added in Vasseur, a non-lowlands rider as far as a know, thought traditional Flanders does encompass modern day France. (some of)

I just knew Van Impe had come along slowly, and came from a famous cycling family. And left the guys in I did not know much about.

I pegged it for Tankink, with a very pissed off Bauet and Vasseur, because those guys will probably get fingered too in the internal witch hunt. laugh.gif ironic. Hunting the whistle blower, and not the doper.

The list tallies with your reasoning, but I'm not sure the article leads to the above qualifications.

Koppenberg
If anyone on (or recently on) QSI would have an axe to grind, it would be Garrido. Apparently they "forgot" to renew his contract and by the time they realized the omission, they had signed their limit of riders.

Whoopsie!

But he's in Spain now, and not the most likely candidate to speak to the Belgian press.

I would say given the article that the rider should be in the first 100K group wouldn't you say?

I have to admit i voted for Baguet, but don't like that idea anymore.

Maybe we are rooting to much for the well known riders?
A "100k group rider" would need some time to get his house paid.

Some new speculative profile:

some time with Quickstep or Lefevere to get that inside view
mid aged
no or few victories

result:

Wilfried Cretskens 30
Addy Engels 29
Kevin Hulsmans 28

Hombre
Freddy Viaene...a mole for Lance?
or Italians who rode for Mapei?
Is Bettini in the mix?
He was on Mapei with Museeuw, right?

And who was the Mapei physician ratting on Lefevre?
Eric Heiden?
Max Testa?
both very unlikely...who else was an Italian doc who treated some of the Italian riders...
sundaymorning
Hulsmans seems the obvious choice. He's been on the team for seven seasons.

Why would Lance need a mole on QS? Or Phonak, for that matter. Pro-Lance, Anti-Lance. Maybe science will discover the Lance gene so we can get a treatment for this affliction.

I agree with the parameters. Hence, why I put the ages is.

I don't think Hulsmans or Cretskends because both are on the "A" team for the big races, and Hulsmans is Boonen's best mate.

I think the phrase "Bill Clinton of the peloton" conveys an idiosyncrasy from the author. I don't think this turn of phrase would be used by most continental professionals. I think this is something Bram Tankink would say, his reputation precedes him and unlike Zabriskie, the guy genuinely has the dry wit.
OAR
The mole was Dimitri de Fauw

Apparently he makes statements regarding the doping practices and the structure behind it all.

Allot of info / claims such as the cocaine and XTC use by team members.

Wow, OAR, now that is keeping track of a thread.

Dave.

The same De Fauw who killed himself recently - officially because he was depressed over the 6 Day crash that killed Galvez. Wonder how much being the QST mole played on his mind too, considering his swift disappearance from the pro ranks and the fact that Lefevre seems teflon coated?
