An interesting FYI regarding the old Team Discovery.

When David Zaslav became the CEO of Discovery Communications, one of the first things he did was fire
Billy Campbell, the president of Discovery Communications, and the man behind their sponsorship
(for three years) of Lance Armstrong and the Tailwind Sports Pro Cycling team. Obviously, the withdrawal
of their sponsorship, terminating the fourth and last year of the agreement, was not a high point
for pro cycling fans. The disappointing 2006 season by the Discovery team probably didn't add
to the allure of sponsorship for Zaslav.
Well, when the Discovery Communications bulding was taken over by a bomb toting eco-terrorist a year and a half ago,
police had to intervene and finally shot and killed the intruder. What most people don't know is that a local hot dog vendor,
Isidro Cabrera, stepped in and prevented dozens, if not hundreds, of Discovery employees from entering the
building during the standoff, until police arrived. His actions probably saved a lot of lives.

My opinion of Zaslav has changed. He personally presented the vendor, Cabrera, with a custom-made hot dog
cart created by West Coast Customs, which has a reality show about custom car restoration on the Discovery Channel.
The reality show filmed the entire production and presentation, and Cabrera, a Hispanic immigrant, was
speechless. So, Zaskav is not exactly a heartless man, after all, and his action showed me their might just be another
side of the coin.

Dean here. Here is what's up.

I am oddly pleased that Mr. Armstrong is getting outed (if even in an underhanded way
by the neo-nazis at USADA). A lot of my cycling pals have called in the last day!

I am happily tending grapes (Harvest season is about here) at the ranch/now vineyard
in Alpine, while Jan works in downtown LA as a banker in one of those huge hi-rises.
We have another home there and I get to ride my fixie around LA with the spoiled children/grunge who
call themselves enlightened.
Toby is working as a mechanic, general expert, and wrench, at a bike and scooter shop
in Morocco.
Scott is back in school and about to enter Cal State Fullerton in Engineering.
(3 years of Junior College seems to have been enough).
My dog, Honey (see photo), has a Syrah named after her, because of her loyalty.
Yellow Dog Red is a Syrah blend (with some Grenache Noir) that bears her photo
on the label.

The vines are six years old now and are plentiful. The wine made is not being marketed or sold
but is being consumed (probably 900 bottles this year) and given away to other junkies.
They are like children and require a lot of attention.

Glad to hear you are continuing to Live the Life, another day in paradise, and all that! Toby ... Morocco ... as in North Africa??? I may be headed to Bulgaria for a couple of years; thought I was going to be all interesting and exotic until you brought that up. It's okay, I'm used to being one-upped by you and your gang. ;)
