He's been talking about it for years, but looks like he's actually going to do so this year: Boonen says he's not going to the Tour. He wants to work towards the Olympics and Worlds with another approach, probably via the Tour of Poland.
While I'm sorry that the Tour will be missing one of cycling's biggest stars, I can understand his decision. What's he got to prove at the Tour anymore? He's too shakey to do the crazy Tour sprints and not fast enough to beat Cav and co, and not as much of a climber as a (good) Hushovd. It's probably for the better.

War. War never changes. The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had predicted: Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones.

Smart move, I think. If Team GB fail to make alliances to keep things together for the bunch sprint, Boonen's Classics riding smarts should give him a real advantage.

Things could have been different with a cobbled stage like in 2010 ...

From the article, and from what I know of Boonen, I'm almost entirely convinced it's his choice. He's been complaining about what a ####ty race the Tour is for years.

He also says that it isn't fair to take a place on the Tour just to take 1 or 2 sprints and to train
