Hi Burkni,

This shout out goes to you. I've been reading some interesting stuff lately about Icelanders mulling the possibility of using the Canuck buck as it's currency. Not a bad idea. Not sure if you go about it by referendum? But, years ago, I believe it was the 1970's, Canada had a chance of buying the Turks and Caicos (I'm fuzzy on the details) so we would have a place to "frolic in the sun" on our dime, instead of using the US $. Don't know who shot that idea down, but it would have been nice to go to some place warm and sunny in the winter on our dime. SO ICELAND think about it....our petro dollar has some legs in it (looks like the oilsands of Alberta gonna go through the Oklahoma pipeline to the refineries in the Gulf and exported) since our "heavier tar sands" suitable for diesel which is great for Central and South America and beyond. So welcome aboard if it ever goes through and you can plan a coast to coast cycling trip. :helmet:

I for one am all for it, and the benefits really seem to outweigh the downsides (just like adopting any real currency)

The trouble is that fish exporters have way too much leeway here (they basically own the biggest political party, although that party isn't in the current coalition, they will win next year's election) and historically, the ISK (local currency) has just always been devalued to suit their interests.

Add to that the well-known political dilemma that nothing can be done because everyone who doesn't claim the idea as theirs will oppose it, and it doesn't seem awfully likely.

Still, you never know, with increasing numbers of hi-tech companies threatening to leave the country ... What will be really interesting is having another beer-price comparison with Patrick B. Penguin if it ever comes to be!

I thought it was Burkni's mission to make sure it never happened because he didn't want any association with the names "loonies" and "toonies"!!

I have now decided not to tell everyone, so no one will ever know.

Well, I thank hard work, wind tunnel testing, my team, yada yada yada ... B)

I also like to thank my "Island mentality" ... it would be easy to migrate to pastures seemingly greener on other, much bigger message boards but I feel that the DPF is home.
