The Tour of Qatar started yesterday, and it has a really nice field: Gilbert, Cavendish, Farrar, Hushovd, Evans...of course for most of them this is their first race so the results may not say much! And Cav was/is sick, too.

First stage won by Boonen in a sprint - I didn't think he still had it in him, but that's his second sprint win of the season so far. Looks like Steegmans made a great delivery, and Boonen showing some good top speed.

War. War never changes. The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had predicted: Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones.

Maybe Boonen is setting himself up for another big classics campaigne. I hope so.

Thanks,

Buddy

He certainly has had a great showing so far in Qatar. 1st, 2nd in the TTT, 2nd.

Cav winning his first stage in his rainbow jersey! First stage of the season, actually. I love it when a rider of his calibre is in the rainbow jersey...let's just hope he doesn't end up wearing green at the Tour too early. WOuld be a shame to have to switch jerseys!

Great stage to watch today in the crosswinds. Boonen again imperious, though Adam Blythe can count himself incredibly unlucky with the late puncture. I thought it was a great sporting gesture by Boonen to seek him out after the finish, and put a consoling arm around him.

It may not be hilly, with great fields (actually some real stars there, thinking about it....), and sparse roadside support, but has been fun to watch.

Interesting to see the form that both Boonen and Cavendish are showing in Qatar. Looks like it is a season of early promise for big Tommy and Cav may well be trying to come good on his winning Milan-San Remo in the world champions jersey comment.

Thanks,

Buddy

Yeah, Cav looks better than I've ever seen him in the early season! The kid's gonna give everyone a run for it at MSR I'm sure. And Boonen looks like the Boonen we used to know...dominant, strong, confident. His former domestique Kevin Hulsmans (now on Pozzato's team) said that he he's seen the old Boonen again this season. We can only hope. :helmet:

Props to Steegmans too btw - I honestly thought he had the best years of his career behinds him, and he's doing great work in Qatar. And Cancellara looking crazy strong already. *rubs hands* let the classic season begin!

The finale where Cancellara attacked and stayed away with Boonen and a couple of others to the end was a classic in its own right, judging by the reports. (haven't seen decent footage)
And I agree, Cav looks lean and ready to deliver.

Burkni, this is the most I've seen

Not much but you can see the small lead group and two of Cancellara's many massive attacks, kinda. :helmet:
