Let him ride, for gosh sake. If CONI hasn't thrown the book at him by now in this supposedly slam dunk case, then let him ride until they do.

Agreed! It will be fun to have him there and animate the race. As the field of GC combatants grows, I find myself getting more and more excited about this race.

Well no wonder he was so cryptic with CN. When asked if he was watching the TdF, he said no because he was too busy. Doing what? "Oh, this and that..." he replied. He's been training his a$$ off, that's what.

I'm surprised his dropping of this little bomb hasn't made so much as a ripple across the 'net.

Well I can see him sneaking in on the way to Siera Nevada, but how will he do a 'grand-fondo-appearance' in the TTT?

Maybe he's moved to Girona, got the Spanish licence, & is ready to sign with Movistar

Arrivederci Italia?

Wouldn't bet against it. Nasty buggers tried to prevent him from racing a bike, didn't they? B)

It's been almost a week -- no further explanation, no retraction, no "Ha! Just kidding!" RR's gone silent.

True that! But the last time he went silent (no interviews, no social media comments), about mid-May, there was a comment on the Noi che Rivogliamo il Cobra n1 in Salita site:

"e ufficiale il cobra e tornato...........prima corsa in serbia poi campionati italiani........." And in June, he DID return, or tried to at least, and the first race would have been in Serbia. http://it-it.faceboo...117166078358601

So I wonder if he's being truthful in a surreptitious way again.

Not that I'm sitting on the edge of my seat or anything :dur:

Yes, saw that. I couldn't figure out how he thought he'd ride the Vuelta given that no team would touch him with the proverbial ten foot pole. Still, I would have loved to see him pull a rabbit out of the hat & ride :)

Or even ... dare I say it ... a Cobra out of a jar?

He must be feeling like a Cobra in a jar right about now:

So today he tweets: "In partenza per l allenamento in programma 5 ore." Google translates as "departing for the training program in 5 hours." I wish he weren't so cryptic. What training program? Training for another bike race he won't be allowed to ride in? Bartender's school? Did he join the army?

Just to be clear, it actually says "Leaving for the 5 hour training program"

Oh, so you speak a little Italian... ;) (All teasing aside, thanks.)

Why is he still training, if there's no hope, I wonder?
