Can the mod responsible for closing the thread "so sad" please give an explanation for doing it?
Just asking...

Thanx.

I'm not a mod, didn't close the thread, and didn't report any posts in the thread, but come on people, it is obvious why it was closed. It was closed just a couple of posts after someone called Double R, Double R(etarded).

I personally hope that name calling on the board continues to be a no-no. It gets plenty heated around here without personal attacks being allowed.

you don't have to close the thread, you can suspend the name caller. closing the thread accomplishes nothing but alienating those that are contributing or following with interest.

Agreed, and that's why I am asking who did this, and if that mod can explain why (s)he did it..

Double R has been banned multiple times for trolling, insulting, and baiting. It would be simplistic to pretend an 8 page thread was closed for my one post.

8 pages of Double R baiting, condescending, arrogance was enough.

As usual, you pretend to know, but as usual, you don't...

I ask again, can the mod who closed the thread "so sad" at least explain why?

I personally found the "Double R(etard)" jibe quite offensive. It's better that threads get closed sooner rather than later when it becomes apparent that a poster has embarked on a "race to the bottom".

It's a shame that the thread was closed, but it would have to be considered effective moderation.

Let`s be careful here. In the last months we had a very low number of moderator interventions. For whatever reason the most present moderators of the past vanished and so the forum was left on it`s own.

I always thought that the main problem of the forum was that it was ridiculously overmoderated. So I was curious to see how the forum would develop without certain moderators. And it did surprisingly well. The users behaved pretty reasonable and I think we saw an uptick in participation.

But of course there are limits. In general I`m sceptical about a forum without any moderation. And the "so sad"-thread is a perfect example for that. It was started as a troll-thread and 75% of DBLR`s following messages were troll material. In part it was rather primitive which of course could well be caused by language problems. In his native language DBLR would argue a bit more rational I`d suspect (and yes, I sound much smarter in a discussion when it is in german language wink.gif ).

So the thread started bad but here and there it had interesting input by some users. Whoever had something interesting to say has done so and now it`s time to move on. Who needs that thread to be open to exchange some insults ? Let`s open an other thread with other interesting things to debate.

So whoever closed the thread has done well. And I hope that the moderator can continue remain in the background. Which of course will be difficulty with the Tour de France coming up.

leaving aside for a moment why it was removed, i think it's clear that the point was well debated.

thanks, and it really is my third language. I read a lot of english texts in the internet but I don`t have much of opportunity to write in English. To formulate thoughts and arguments takes a lot of time if you`re not used to write (In English I`m much too slow). One of the main reasons to participate in this forum was to get some practice in that.

However, in a heated debate about the usual old themes ( LA - good or bad ) you need some charme. If you don`t have that because you can`t express yourself well enough then the debate gets ugly pretty soon. And I think that happened more than once in that thread.

Z is right that the level of moderation has been low (or seemed low to me) recently, and that the forum has done well. I don't know if there is any correlation or causation here. Have posters been on their best behavior and thus no moderation has been required? Or have posters had better feelings towards this forum, and thus are less likely to lash out, because their posts have not been moderated? I don't know.

Clearly, heavy-handed moderation, particularly one-sided moderation, has infuriated posters in the past. This has resulted in forced departures, voluntary departures, and an antagonistic relationship between some.

I also agree with NBOL that name calling was the proximate cause here to the thread being closed, and agree with Smug that the debate had covered all perspectives and its useful life was expiring or expired.

IMO, an OAR Red Lobster reference indicates that nothing more of use will come from a given thread.

Remember, there are no morons, only moronic posts by misguided individuals. cool.gif

Smuggie!
A little bit ironic then that the usual suspetcs of 5-10 LA-haters probably has written 30 000 + posts about the same topic? Can you estimate how many posts they need before we can say that their point are well debated?

About Surftels remark; I don't care. Maybe he's frustrated and need to get it out of his system? I'm sure his wife and children agree that it's better that he let his anger problems towards me, then his family? So I would like to defend Surftel.

What is this? You swoop in from your sockpuppet patrol on that other forum and lob a mentally handicapped bomb at one of the regular posters in here. This is the forum for exiles, so don't upset the reformation. RR makes good points and are worth debating, but I know you have little tolerance for alternative opinions and "troll" is a turret-like tic of yours. laugh.gif
