Just a thread where everyone can post some of their favorite music...let's hope we can all pick some up great new music from each other. helmet.gif

I'll start off with a song by the brilliant Kate Nash

War. War never changes. The end of the world occurred pretty much as we had predicted: Too many humans, not enough space or resources to go around. The details are trivial and pointless, the reasons, as always, purely human ones.

Good thread, let me start off with few easy to find ones.

Great, great song from the genius that is Elvis Costello, nicely used in a fan video for "Nightmare before Christmas"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URV1_pwdTso

Glen Hansard of the frames at his best, rather than the strangely forgettable, though pleasant, song which won the Oscar this year.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NRVIaeFAhM

The great, great Tom waits.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXeQ_3oPidU

Couldn't find a full clip, but if you don't know it, "The way young lovers do" by Van Morrison is a priceless gem, really a brilliant piece of music the way that the apparent discord adds up in the end to something that merges perfectly.

I absolutely adore "What happens when the heart just stops". Knocks me dead every time.

As for Van - what an album! Great article about the recording here:

Really happy with the return on this thread so far!! Waits, Morrison, the Avalanches... happy.gif

Thanks for reminding me of teenage kicks FF, long time since I heard it. helmet.gif

I wish I could post Waits' "A sight for sore eyes", but alas it can't be found on youtube. sad.gif Hauntingly beautiful. Heck, I could fill a few pages with Waits song links and not be bored by it. tongue.gif

Can't find "There'll be some changes made" by Mark Knopfler and Chet Atkins either. Their entire collaboration cd is a joy for the ear.

Ah well...I suppose this'll have to do:

Damien Rice with '9 Crimes'

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=aHW3BTF5pWY

The strangely compelling Buck 65 with 'Cries a girl' (video is some school project, but song is his)

http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=NcaiEYC9KJ8

British instrumental rockband 65 degrees of static (unofficial video again)

Billie Holiday
Mose Allison
Art Tatum
Michel Petrucciani
Pagny/Brel
and for something completely different
J'adore
which was a huge hit a couple of years ago in France.

That's some of today's listening for me.

And now for our required Canadian content...

The Sadies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5GvRpww4S8

One of my all-time favourite bands, Blue Rodeo. These guys have been around forever - big in Canada, nowhere else.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlyEF6IZm88

Arcade Fire - love their melodies. When we were in France, we were surprised to turn on the tv and find a documentary on them!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NNfWC4Sgkcs

Canada's party band - Great Big Sea
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6AvkyHCU7XU

And finally, some Aussie content... Gaslight Radio (recommended to me by a certain member who no longer exists here):
