I'm predicting all upsets in the West... Dallas and Colorado. The way Dallas manhandled the Ducks was impressive. San Jose proved to me against Calgary that they can still find ways to lose, even with the strong team they have. Detroit did not impress me whatsoever in the first round (then again - the first round has traditionally been the hardest for them; but I don't think you can flip-flop your starting goalies this time of year and that will be their downfall.

In the East, Montreal (their city council had better budget a new more police cars) and the Penguins. Pittsburgh-NYR will be a great series to watch. Wonder if the super-long break will hurt the Penguins?

Not a bad plan considering Maggie was the only "expert" who correctly picked Philly to beat Washington!!!

Still licking the wounds from the Bruins defeat and from having to listen to "oh Canada" being sung in French (!!!) ... I agree with all picks except I pick NYR over the Penguins.

I predict ... that whatever I predict will not happen. I mean, how wrong can one person be wink.gif

Another season is upon us and of course the big news here is that Hockey Night In Canada has picked a new theme song!! Cool that the winning composer is a local music teacher. For those who didn't know, HNIC lost the rights to their "Dunt-da DUNT-da Dunt" song (aka Canada's second national anthem) to TSN earlier this year and held a nationwide contest to come up with a new theme. The new song will never replace the old one of course but it's catchy...

And in other news, Toronto is planning their parade route for the Leaf's win over Detroit on Thursday...

I didn't like the new anthem much until I heard it played over top the new video intro - together they're pretty cool.

The Canucks had, what, 10 shots against the Caps last night? wink.gif

Course, if Theodore had been in net, that would've meant at least 5 goals.

R.I.P Alexei Cherepanov.

An extremely talented forward, no doubt he would have become a future star in the NHL. :-(

Just kidding...this is really sad. When will people learn?

If I go to a hockey game, how am I supposed to know if I am, or am not supporting cheaters? Or should I just stay away from all athletic events forever on the chance that someone might be cheating?

Just a few clarifications regarding Cherepanov's tragic death. All from the direct Russian sources.

1. The medical report did NOT specify if it was indeed blood manipulation or anything else.
2. He appears to have had a congenital heart condition BEFORE the suspected PED.
3. The emergency doctor first on the scene diagnosed him as clinically dead when he was in fact alive.
4. Props to the Russian state investigators who, despite their traditional state-sponsored cover-ups, had the courage to call the spades.

PS: Yes, it's a toss up if the thread belongs here or in the more appropriate forum. It's certainly not cycling.

Thanks

Finally! A result that seemed nearly impossible a few years ago. Congratulations Blackhawks!

On this day in 1980 the U.S hockey team beat the Soviets....the second original DREAM TEAM. :o The first was the Canadian team in the epic 1972 Canada - Soviet series. ;)
