NBOL is royally POed. The only chance of glory that he had for this race was the Lanterne Rouge. After managing to hide in the bushes and let GuideMD by, NBOL was looking for red accessories, when VdB swoops in and steals the glory. NBOL promises to only carry fruity bears on his pedicab for the worlds. Let VdB suffer.

Penguin wants to know if carrying around "fruity bears" in the pedicab is what slowed him down during the Vuelta? Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Burkni expresses continued concern with the whole macho aspect of the team, and reiterates his invitation for team members for a "Harden the f*** up" training camp in January.

 Yes, VdB has been worried about the recent influx of fruit beers and candy on the team...what is this, a football team full of metrosexual pansies?! If Penguin and NBOL would be getting any results VdB would allow them their idiosyncracies, but well, we all know better than that.

VdB extends his congrats to Burkni for a glorious GT win, after enjoying his neck-and-neck battle with Crockett for a few weeks. He himself seems to have underestimated the course and faded away after a strong first week...his own abysmal performance and that of most of the team forces him to say that if the team doesn't do any better come Worlds and fall classics, he may be forced to let a few people go next year. :o

P.S. free ham 'supplements' can be found in the team freezer, just so everyone is prepared properly.

Congratulations to Burkni on the Vuelta victory to add to his illustrious palmares. Crockett wonders which riders ("most of the team") are exempt from VdB's threat of sacking.

What is the deadline for entering the fall classics teams? NBOL might do as well with a random number generator, but still wonders.

Burkni blushes but to his recollection, he won the Giro in 2007 and possibly the spring classics in 2009, but apart from that he only has this Vuelta on his Palmares? Is there an ITT hall of fame somewhere?

Burkni feels that crockett, Jokkee and resident sprinters PbP and VdB have won almost everything on offer ...

VdB can scarcely remember winning anythying resembling a GC, but he does recall Penguin 'magically' turning climber and winning the Tour a year or two ago.

As for historical records...using each team member's palmares it could be extrapolated who on the team won the GC for every GT/season period, but not who won the jerseys! Blast! VdB will make an overview of the team members' efforts in the last 4-5 years tomorrow if he has the time.

VdB need not dig very deep for NBOL. A couple of stage wins and that's the end of it.

NBOL is still looking for any guidance on when the Fall Classics squad has to be entered. The WC men's time trial starts a week from today. Does the team have until Tuesday evening the 20th to do this or is the cut off from when the first WC race happens that isn't one that get scored in WP?

Somewhere crockett has the winners of all the GTs and the spring classics.

Shag had an outstanding performance a few years back, ICRC.

NBOL has filled his first 6 spots with fairly expensive riders from the WC start lists. He has only 447 points to fill in his next 6. NBOL will take suggestions on bargain riders who are likely to participate in Paris-Tours or Lambardia.

guidemd sees the following on the WP website: "You can edit your team until 21 september, 07h00 / september 21, 07h00!" - that would be 0700h Euro time so essentially by the evening of Sept 20 (= Tuesday) in North America. Whether or not VdB or Burkni or whomever currently has the captain's powers wants an earlier deadline in order to eliminate those without teams remains to be seen.

guidemd has picked her first 4 riders and has no idea beyond those ... with all the recent injuries she can't actually recall which sprinters might be riding beyond Cav. Oh wait, maybe she'd better pick Bennati as well... on the TT side, there's Tony Martin, Cancellara, and her token Canadian (Tuft) who actually won a medal a few years ago so isn't really entirely a token pick...

NBOL saw the date on the site, but never is sure on the WP site if that is this years dates or not. You look at the calendar and depending on which link you use to get there you get either the 2006 or the 2009 calendar.

NBOL passed on Cancellara because he couldn't fit both him and Gilbert on his team without limiting it to about 3 riders. This is NBOL's current selections with all of 20 points left for the last 5 places.

1. 4 GILBERT Philippe 1842
2. 15 BOASSON HAGEN Edvald 1216
3. 20 FREIRE GOMEZ Oscar 1127
4. 25 MARTIN Tony 995
5. 47 PORTE Richie 733
6. 66 BENNATI Daniele 615
7. 107 TUFT Svein 452

It wasn't until Burkni made the comment that NBOL realized what ICRC stood for. Good move Crockett.

Guidemd is absolutely right about the cut-off date! Burkni is still wielding the captain's sceptre, so he'll be the one in charge of the cut-off date. Unless he wants to transfer team leadership to yours truly, of course.

VdB is fielding a sprinter-heavy team, or what did anyone expect? :P

1. 4 GILBERT Philippe 1842
2. 20 FREIRE GOMEZ Oscar 1127
3. 25 MARTIN Tony 995
4. 29 SAGAN Peter 928
5. 48 GOSS Matthew 634
6. 138 BOZIC Borut 370
7. 181 SIMON Julien 307
8. 229 POELS Wout 266
9. 368 ROLLIN Dominique 167
10. 436 GALLOPIN Tony 141
11. 540 STANNARD Ian 110
12. 797 KITTEL Marcel 60

Penguin notes that as per Podium Insight, Rollin is injured and will be replaced by Michael Barry on the kick-a$$ Canadian squad!!

At 87 points Barry is still too expensive for NBOL's team. As much as NBOL hates to consider doing it, he may have to shed Freire to make room for 5 more riders. Either that or NBOL enters a 7 rider team.
