Sure, barking from behind a fence is not unlike insults by someone withholding their real name.
It is against the rules to be a UCI license holder and be involved in events or organizations which compete with the UCI. Please, angry dog, spell out what the UCI stands for.
Is this your interpretation of the UCI rules that it also relates to forming a union?

Floyd, I think on investigation you would find the UCI would be up to its neck in legal bother if it outlawed UCI licence holders from joining a union. The UCI is based in Switzerland as is the UN. There are international conventions on human rights relating to participating in unions and in a number of countries it is enshrined in law that unions can exist and parties cannot discriminate on the grounds of union membership.

I would expect that Switzer and being a signatory to the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation would ensure the UCI conformed.

Floyd,

I have a nice memory to share with you. About 8 years ago my wife, daughter and I were in Lancaster for what I think was then called The Core States race. We ended up standing in front of a parking garage right by a Mennonite family. We got to talking during the course of the race and discovered it was your mother and some of your relatives. They were so proud and happy for you and we cheered for you right along with them every time the peloton passed by. I don't remember who won the race (I don't think it was you) but it was a special day for us.

You have come a long way since then but it's clear you head is still in the right place. I look forward to seeing you back at the top of the sport soon.

Heal fast!

Evan

Hi Floyd, can you share with us how the time on the trainer went this week? And it's my understanding you had not been doing any real riding since the TdF win, so what did it feel like to turn those pedals over again?

You have more support than it might look like on the surface--here's hoping you keep a positive attitude as you heal up, AND do something fun to celebrate your birthday coming up in a few days.

Stay true to yourself--that's what we love about you! Hey, how did you like the beer and salsa?

Probably time to start over since we've long lost sight of the Greg LeMond radio show.

Floyd, thanks for joining the discussions and sharing your insights. Anyone who's ever been involved in matters of complex science, the law, and politics knows only too well how hard it can be to come by the full set of facts, and even more importantly, the hazards of trying to draw causal connections (even when in possession of all the data), and the requests you've made of discussion participants is more than reasonable.

Selfishly, I'd love to see the discussion take a break from "doping discussion" and turn to the cycling itself. As you point out, there's so much more data that will be provided by you and your team (and presumably will come to light during the hearings themselves, provided your request to have the hearings opened for public consumption is granted), it seems like the "doping discussion" would be more informed and call for less speculation (on the part of those of us on the "outside") if we simply set it aside for a short while.

In the meantime, I'd enjoy to hear your thoughts on a million other things -- comparing and contrasting racing mountain bikes vs. road, which are your favorite climbs on the European calendar (and which are most dreaded!). How about your thoughts on decisions of race officials to shorten or abort stages in inclement weather now, that might have been raced through 20 or 30 years ago? (say, this year's Giro vs. 1988 and the legendary Gavia stage won by Hampsten) How about scariest near-miss crashes you've avoided? (I'm assuming you've had at least a few times you've gotten through something gnarly and later couldn't exactly figure out how? Or is that only just us amateurs and weekend warriors?!) Excepting the Morzine stage in this year's Tour, is there another day that stands out that you just knew somewhere on the day "I'm just on today, this is MY day"? How about training routes/rides in the U.S. -- what are your favorites? Most beautiful (scenic) route you'd want to ride (in the U.S.) if you had just one day to ride the bike anywhere you wanted? Is there any part of you that, once your time in the Pro Tour is done, would like to try something a bit out of the ordinary like a 24 hour race, or something really nutty like RAAM?

Glad you've stopped in for a while your hip is healing.

Dear Floyd,

I really believe you are innocent and Eddy Mercxk also came out and proclaimed the same today, quoted in cyclingnews.com.
Good luck.
But since you have paid a ton of money to your lawyer and he probably told you not to talk about the case, I am sceptical, not of your case, but of the reality of you posting on these boards.
How's the new and improved hip?

Gimondi at Interbike had nothing but nice things to say about you and how terrible it all was. Pretty nice props there too.

Heal up, the road is waiting for you. wink.gif

Hoping someone (preferably Floyd, natch) can shed light upon this.

I just checked out Floyd's user information, as viewable by anyone; not terribly dissimilar from my own ie. allowing PMs but keeping email addresses private. There's nothing the matter with that, it's only sensible.

However I did notice that in the 'local time' area for the member Floyd, it gave 12.35 am ie. 25 to one in the morning. This was like, about 15 minutes ago.

I'm in the UK. MY local time as of writing this message is 01.50 am ie. 10 to two in the morning.

Now I'm wondering ... and I did just check, when I search for my own username this site does give me my correct local time ie. 01:45 am (it's taking me a minute or two to write this OK tongue.gif ).

Now unless I'm really really missing something, or my math is far worse than I believe, this means that member Floyd is writing from a time zone about 1 ONE hour BEHIND mine. Like I said, I'm in the UK. This would place him somewhere in western Spain or Portugal; or in the Canaries or Azores (though I suspect even those might be a tad too far west). Could even be another UK-er who's not cottoned on to the notion of summer/daylight savings time smile.gif Certainly NOT in the US, which is like 5 to 8 hours behind the UK on time.

Does Floyd have his computer's cpu clock mis-set? (it's generally easy to fix via the BIOS screen, for most PCs smile.gif ) Or is there a problem with the forum's time-keeping? (You know, I really really hope that's it! But I suspect not sad.gif ) Or WHAT?

I'd be happy to trade messages if I thought I knew who I was talking to. But according to the timing here, I absolutely don't.

lr

PS Mods, If I have this all wrong and if I've accidentally dissed a righteous guy, please feel free to bounce this message or myself even. Have to make the call if I see a problem though. Been moderating mailing lists for too long I guess blink.gif

I am personaly a fan of Vino, he races respectfuly but agressively and I am sure that he is more fun to watch than to try to follow.

I think I can answer your question, lr. The time listed for a user's "local time" on the forum defaults to somwhere in the UK/Europe (I've always just presumed UTC/GMT) if the user doesn't set it for their own time zone. The same thing happens if you don't actually log in (like me at work sometimes, I get all confused with the times of posts I'm reading when something was supposedly posted at 9pm when it's only actually the afternoon - until I remember that I hadn't logged in yet blink.gif ).

I suspect many users never actually set their time zone if it isn't important to them - I know for a fact of several who've never bothered.

And, FWIW, the mods can see the IP addresses from where messages on the forum are posted - Floyd does appear to be posting from California as he says he is cool.gif .

i applaud you on making the usada hearing public. do you feel like you are still scrambling to figure things out, or do you feel prepared? i know you have an experienced lawyer (s) but i'd guess you have to be a little nervous.

Floyd,
A band called Copper Box played at a charity ride today in Lake Mills Wisconsin. The highlight was a speed polka version of "Comfortably Numb". Very cool.
I'm looking forward to your document postings. Science is fallable and the guys here will dissect the numbers pretty well.
Saw you on the Aravis. I almost p'ed my pants.

HI Floyd,

I hope you are healing well and its great to see pictures of you after the surgery. I hope rehab goes as expected, and Im excited to see you defending the multiple yellow's in '08. This was the most amazing year and inspirational beyond words. Im excited youre calling for open hearings...nothing like a little daylight as a disinfectant for the misery of this lab and UCI's nothing-short-of-shocking handling of your case.

Was fortunate enough to catch your ride at Georgia this year and took a few pix from Brasstown Bald and out in the middle of nowhere. Here's one of my favs. It was awesome getting a chance to see you and Phonak.

Im one fan sticking with you.

I think that we have a grip on things and as far as I know USADA has not objected to an open hearing. We still need quite a few more documents but we understand what we have now.

Do you have a time frame yet for when the hearing might be?

Still waiting for a reply from USADA but probably not until at least January. That should give you guys lots of time to read the docs.

Do you know if the hearing is subject to the rules of evidence?

The legal stuff I am not sure about but it is an arbitration with the AAA in the standard format of three arbitrators.
